Terms of Service
Last updated 20 July 2026
These Terms are an agreement between you and ScholarDeck. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. Please read them, especially the medical disclaimer and the limits on our liability.
1. Who can use ScholarDeck
ScholarDeck is intended for physicians, researchers, and other verified healthcare and scientific professionals who are at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. By using the service you confirm this is true and that any professional information you provide about yourself is accurate.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your login secure.
- You must provide accurate information, including when you verify your profession or claim authorship of research. Misrepresenting your identity or credentials is not allowed.
- A verified badge reflects information available to us and is not a professional licence or an endorsement.
3. Research content and the accuracy gate
ScholarDeck turns published papers into visual "cards." A card is only created when the key number appears verbatim in the paper's abstract, the paper is not marked retracted, and the study type can be determined; otherwise the paper is skipped. Despite these safeguards, summaries are provided "as is" and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Every card links to the original source, and that source, not the card, is authoritative. Bibliographic data comes from third parties (such as PubMed, OpenAlex, ORCID, and Crossref) whose accuracy and availability we do not control.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the posts, comments, and other content you create. By posting, you grant ScholarDeck a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and improving the service. You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the rights to share it.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Post protected health information or anything that identifies a patient.
- Post content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or infringing.
- Give individualised medical advice to patients through the platform.
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation or credentials.
- Upload malware, scrape the service, or attempt to break its security or rate limits.
- Use the service to spam, advertise, or promote products without our permission.
We may remove content, and suspend or terminate accounts, that we reasonably believe violate these Terms. We use rate-limiting, blocking, reporting, and moderation to keep the community safe, and we keep an audit record of moderation actions.
6. Messages and interactions
Direct messaging and social features are provided to support professional discussion. You are responsible for your interactions with others. Blocking and reporting tools are available, and blocked relationships are enforced across the service.
7. Intellectual property
The ScholarDeck name, design, card engine, and software are owned by us and protected by law. These Terms do not grant you any right to our trademarks or software except to use the service as intended. Abstracts and paper metadata belong to their respective publishers and authors.
8. Third-party links
Cards link out to papers on PubMed, journal sites, or DOI resolvers. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites or their content.
9. Disclaimers
The service, including all research summaries, is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any summary is complete or accurate. Nothing on ScholarDeck creates a doctor-patient relationship.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ScholarDeck and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from clinical or professional decisions made in reliance on content from the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free account is zero.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold ScholarDeck harmless from claims arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using ScholarDeck and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these Terms or to protect the service or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits) will continue to apply.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws that apply at ScholarDeck's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer protection available to you under the law of your country of residence.
