Regional Anesthesia in Thumb Carpometacarpal Arthroplasty: Increased Costs Without Differences in Early Emergency Department Visits or Opioid Prescriptions.

We identified 181,241 patients who underwent carpometacarpal arthroplasty and created two matched cohorts of 33,186 patients each (76.8% women; mean age = 61.48 [standard deviation, 8.42] years).

The rates of emergency department visits within 7 days were similar between groups (1.93% vs 1.90%).

The numbers of opioid prescriptions within 14 days were also similar (median morphine milligram equivalents = 300.0 [quartile 1-quartile 3: 200.0 to 0.5] vs 300.0 [quartile 1-quartile 3: 200.0 to 500.0]).
