Background

The role of left ventricular global longitudinal strain (left ventricular global longitudinal strain) in coronary artery bypass grafting (coronary artery bypass grafting) and outcomes such as low cardiac output syndrome (low cardiac output syndrome) is not well established.

Methods

A prospective observational study was conducted in a public/private hospital with 50 adult patients scheduled for on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting with normal left ventricular ejection fraction (left ventricular ejection fraction).

Results

Each one-unit increase in preoperative strain lowered odds of in-hospital death by about 26%.
