In adult non-TBI trauma patients with isolated flail chest, surgical stabilization of rib fractures is associated with comparable mortality when compared to non-operative management.

Among severe TBI patients with flail chest, surgical stabilization of rib fractures is associated with significantly reduced odds of in-hospital mortality.
