Background

To determine whether subretinal fluid drainage (SRF) using perfluorocarbon (perfluorocarbon) during rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (rhegmatogenous retinal detachment) repair reduces postoperative metamorphopsia.

Methods

Consecutive patients after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were evaluated for best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), funduscopy, and metamorphopsia using M-CHARTS.

n = 30 patients
Results

worse best-corrected vision in patients with visual distortion

0.15logMAR
patients with metamorp
0.04logMAR
patients without metam
More results

The cohort included 30 patients, of whom 11 (36.7%) underwent intraoperative perfluorocarbon injection.

Rates of macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment were similar in the two groups (54.5% and 47.4%, P = .705).

No association was found between perfluorocarbon injection and metamorphopsia score.

More results

Preoperative macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment was associated with significantly higher vertical and horizontal metamorphopsia scores than preoperative macula-on.

“
Conclusion

Intraoperative SRF drainage with perfluorocarbon appears to have no beneficial effect on postoperative metamorphopsia. Metamorphopsia is associated with macular status. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2018;49:e263-e270.].
