Purpose

To evaluate the association between teprotumumab use and hearing loss in hyperthyroid patients using real-world, population-level data.

Methods

A retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Collaborative Network was used to identify patients with hyperthyroidism (ICD-10 code E05) from 2006 to 2024.

n = 2,164 patients

Results

sensorineural hearing loss was over three times more common with teprotumumab

RR 1.66 (95% CI 1.17 to 2.36)

Unspecified hearing loss was reported in 78 (7.2%) Teprotumumab patients versus 47 (4.3%) controls (P = .006; RR = 1.66; 95% CI: 1.17-2.36).

Conductive and mixed hearing loss could not be reliably analyzed due to small sample sizes (N < 10 per group).
