Background

Chronic rhinosinusitis (chronic rhinosinusitis) is a prevalent inflammatory disorder that significantly impairs quality of life.

Purpose

To systematically evaluate the association between vitamin D and chronic rhinosinusitis and to assess the effects of vitamin D supplementation on disease severity, recurrence, quality of life, inflammatory markers, and postoperative outcomes.

Methods

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines.

Chronic rhinosinusitis patients exhibited significantly lower vitamin D levels than controls, with deficiency rates exceeding 90% among patients with nasal polyps.

Meta-analysis confirmed significantly lower serum vitamin D levels in chronic rhinosinusitis patients (MD = -12.09 ng/mL; 95% CI: -23.07 to -1.12) and a significant inverse correlation with disease severity (r = -0.52; 95% CI: -0.66 to -0.34).
