Purpose

To evaluate whether congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection is associated with differences in cochlear implant (CI) usage in children, as measured by hearing hour percentage (hearing hour percentage), compared to matched non-CMV controls.

Methods

Tertiary pediatric hospital.

n = 19

In multivariate analysis, cCMV was not independently associated with hearing hour percentage (β = -8.63, p = 0.132).

Factors significantly associated with higher hearing hour percentage included older age and private insurance, while single-sided deafness and implantation during the late COVID pandemic period were associated with reduced hearing hour percentage.
