Background

Portal vein thrombosis (portal vein thrombosis) occurs in ~14% of patients with cirrhosis.

Methods

We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adults with cirrhosis and portal vein thrombosis initiating apixaban or rivaroxaban.

n = 312 patients

Results

apixaban trended toward less bleeding, but not a clear difference

In this real-world cohort, apixaban and rivaroxaban demonstrated comparable effectiveness, with possible lower bleeding risk with apixaban.
