Improved Anticoagulation Guideline Adherence and Clinical Outcome Through Hospital-Wide Atrial Fibrillation Alarming System.

Background

Direct oral anticoagulation (direct oral anticoagulation) therapy has been approved for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (atrial fibrillation) patients.

Purpose

We used a hospital-wide atrial fibrillation screening system to improve the oral anticoagulants guideline adherence rate.

Methods

With atrial fibrillation were enrolled.

Results

guideline-recommended anticoagulation reached most hospitalized af patients after screening

Baseline adherence
40.6%
After intervention
82.5%
More results

At baseline, the direct oral anticoagulation guideline adherence rate was only 40.6%.

After discharge, the adherence rate did not decrease.

The annual stroke rates for patients on guideline-recommended DOACs with and without our intervention were 2.79% and 3.12%, respectively.

More results

The annual stroke rate for patients on DOACs not adhering to the guidelines was 9.91%.

“
Conclusion · 1 of 2

Implementation of a hospital-wide atrial fibrillation screening system improved the direct oral anticoagulation guideline adherence rate and reduced the annual stroke rate for patients with atrial fibrillation.

Conclusion · 2 of 2

The minor bleeding rate was increased.
