Purpose

To evaluate the visit time in a neuro-ophthalmology clinic by comparing virtual reality visual field (virtual reality visual field) testing versus the standard Humphrey visual field (humphrey visual field) and the influence of the technician's learning curve.

Methods

Data from 66 patients were included in the initial phase of the study (baseline), and data from a new cohort ( n = 66) were collected six months later.

n = 66 patients
Results
59.9
± 17.1 min
average time to check in new patients using VR testing after technicians gained experience - faster
n = 66 patients
More results

The mean age was 47.6 ± 21.7 years (65.2% female) at baseline and 47.9 ± 21.1 years (66.7% female) at 6 months.

Technician workup time for follow-up visits was significantly shorter when using virtual reality visual field at both the baseline ( p < 0.0001) and 6-month time points ( p < 0.0001), compared to humphrey visual field.

Conclusion · 1 of 2

The use of virtual reality visual field in neuro-ophthalmology clinics improved workflow by reducing technician workup time for new and follow-up patient visits.

Conclusion · 2 of 2

Consistent results across two time points underscore the role of virtual reality visual field testing in streamlining clinic visits and alleviating high patient volume pressures.
