Background

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Sleep disturbances are common in people with diabetes, yet their relationship to automated insulin delivery (automated insulin delivery) use has not been well described in large, real-world cohorts.

Methods

We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 529 adults from the OPEN Project (2020-2023).

Adults using automated insulin delivery systems reported better sleep quality and lower fear of hypoglycemia than those managing diabetes without automation, yet a large proportion of all participants continued to experience poor sleep.

Diabetes-related nocturnal disruptions remained common among non-users, suggesting that automated insulin delivery may alleviate-but not eliminate-the nighttime diabetes burden.
