Purpose

The purpose of this study was to investigate the benefits of a novel device with superior axial resolution.

Methods

Were recruited at the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry at the Medical University of Vienna.

n = 40 eyes
Results

the light-sensing layer under the retina measured thinner with the new scanner

High-Res OCT (myoid zo
19.85µm
SPECTRALIS (myoid zone
21.37µm
More results

The study included 3920 B-scans of 40 eyes of 32 patients.

Smaller ellipsoid zone- and external limiting membrane loss areas (all P < 0.001) were found for the High-Res optical coherence tomography.

Higher subretinal drusenoid deposits volumes were found for the High-Res optical coherence tomography (P < 0.001).

Conclusion · 1 of 2

Precise in vivo quantification of optical coherence tomography features is of great relevance for individualized patient management.

Conclusion · 2 of 2

The High-Res optical coherence tomography device allows for detailed topographical analysis of outer retinal changes in geographic atrophy, which could improve early detection, patient selection, and patient management in clinical practice.
