Background

The objective of this study was to evaluate macular perfusion changes after intracameral injection (injection) of cefuroxime at the end of phacoemulsification.

Methods

Who underwent routine phacoemulsification were enrolled.

n = 33 eyes
Results

capillary-free zone at fovea shrank less with cefuroxime - a milder change

Case (T10)
-0.06mm2
Control (T10)
-0.18mm2
More results

At T90, there was no statistically significant difference in the foveal avascular zone change in the deep capillary plexus between the groups.

More results

The postoperative changes in the vessel density, skeleton density, and acircularity index of the foveal avascular zone in the superficial capillary plexus and deep capillary plexus, central retinal thickness, and best-corrected visual acuity were similar between the groups in all 3 months.

“
Conclusion

Our findings indicate that intraoperative injection low-dose cefuroxime is associated with a temporary deceleration in foveal avascular zone reduction in the deep capillary plexus during the first postoperative month.
