Clitoral reconstruction after vulvar cancer surgery is associated with high rates of orgasm.

Clitoral reconstructive surgery for patients with vulvar carcinoma.

Mieke Ten Eikelder et al. · Gynecologic oncology · 2026
Background

Vulvar carcinoma involving the clitoral region often necessitates partial or complete excision of the clitoris, with profound psychosexual and functional impact.

Purpose

To give an anatomical overview of the clitoris and describe the anatomical foundations and surgical technique for clitoral reconstruction after oncological excision and report postoperative outcomes.

Methods

We provide an anatomical overview and a step-by-step description of clitoral reconstruction after vulvar carcinoma surgery.

n = 18 patients
88.9%
Results
patients could achieve orgasm after clitoral reconstruction surgery
n = 18 patients
“
Conclusion · 1 of 2

Clitoral reconstruction in vulvar carcinoma surgery is technically feasible, preserves anatomical landmarks, reporting low incidence of complications, and may mitigate psychosexual morbidity without compromising oncological safety.

Conclusion · 2 of 2

Further prospective evaluation is warranted.
