Predicting major surgical complications in intensive care units and in-hospital mortality of patients from the emergency room: A retrospective single-center study.

The characteristics and predictors of major surgical complications in this high-risk population remain poorly defined.

ResultsMSCs occurred in 20.8% of patients.

In-hospital mortality was 14.0%.

Independent predictors of major surgical complications included higher Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II scores, presence of shock at intensive care unit (intensive care unit) admission, biliary tree and soft tissue surgery, an American Society of Anesthesiologists score ≥4, and prolonged mechanical ventilation.
