Background

Multiple sclerosis (multiple sclerosis) is a chronic inflammatory and neurodegenerative disease associated with increased susceptibility to infections.

Methods

MATERIAL AND METHODS This prospective, matched case-control study included 60 patients with multiple sclerosis and 60 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Nasal mucociliary clearance time showed a significant positive correlation with Expanded Disability Status Scale scores (r=0.378, P=0.003).

Patients with progressive multiple sclerosis exhibited significantly prolonged nasal mucociliary clearance times compared with those with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (P=0.004).
