Purpose

To develop a novel preliminary prediction model (FALLPREDICT) that predicts the risk of falls in patients who have undergone a lower limb amputation (lower limb amputation) in the 12-months following their first definitive lower limb prosthesis (lower limb prosthesis) prescription.

Methods

Were tracked 12 months forward to identify incident falls.

n = 1,690 Veterans

Results

0.71

C-statistic; 1.0 is perfect prediction, 0.71 reflects good ability to identify future fallers.

Conclusion

The FALLPREDICT model can be used for identifying patients at high risk of a future fall to help guide targeted fall intervention strategies.
