KTP laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy linked to less intraoperative bleeding than cold steel

Selective potassium titanyl phosphate laser-assisted endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy with cyanoacrylate flap fixation: A prospective comparative study.

Indian journal of ophthalmology · 2026
Purpose

To compare intraoperative blood loss and surgical success between potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) laser-assisted and conventional cold steel endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (enDCR).

Methods

Prospective, non randomized comparative interventional study.

n = 73 procedures
Results

less bleeding during surgery with the laser method than the standard technique

0.05g
KTP
0.36g
Cold steel
More results

No complications related to the cyanoacrylate adhesive were observed.

“
Conclusion

Selective use of the KTP laser for mucosal incision, combined with cyanoacrylate flap fixation, significantly minimizes intraoperative bleeding while achieving high surgical success rates comparable to traditional cold steel enDCR.
