Background

The high risk of central nervous system dissemination poses a significant challenge in the management of primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (primary vitreoretinal lymphoma).

Methods

We retrospectively reviewed 34 consecutive patients who underwent vitreous biopsies at Niigata University Hospital between January 2010 and December 2021; 12 patients were initially diagnosed with primary vitreoretinal lymphoma without central nervous system involvement.

n = 12 patients
Results

adding the leftover fluid helped find lymphoma in most eyes tested

Conclusion · 1 of 2

Comprehensive vitreous sampling incorporating perfusion fluid may improve cytologic detection in primary vitreoretinal lymphoma within a single-center setting.

Conclusion · 2 of 2

Routine magnetic resonance imaging surveillance facilitates early detection of central nervous system relapse in patients with primary vitreoretinal lymphoma; however, a survival benefit cannot be established from this retrospective analysis.
