Absorbable, Non-absorbable, and Sutureless Wound Closure in Pediatric Cataract Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Eight studies (four per comparison) evaluated suture material (321 absorbable; 430 non-absorbable) and closure technique (1,127 sutureless; 187 sutured closure).

Absorbable sutures were associated with significantly lower odds of overall complications than non-absorbable sutures (OR 2.35; 95% CI 1.38 to 3.99; P=0.002; very low-certainty evidence).

Specifically, 10-0 polyglactin 910 outperformed 10-0 nylon (OR 2.18; P=0.005; very low-certainty evidence), though loosening was more frequent (P=0.05).

No significant differences were found for wound leakage (P=0.60) or endophthalmitis (P=0.10).
