Background

Total vaginal length (total vaginal length) is an important parameter in pelvic organ prolapse (prolapse) assessment and is significantly associated with prolapse symptoms.

Methods

With a history of total hysterectomy who underwent laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for symptomatic prolapse between January 2015 and January 2023 were included.

Postoperatively, total vaginal length significantly increased in the Short TVL group compared with the normal TVL group (2.3 ± 0.9 vs - 0.2 ± 0.8; p < 0.0001).

Conclusion

Patient-reported and clinical outcomes following laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy were comparable in patients with short and normal total vaginal length, indicating that laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy may be a feasible option for apical patients with symptomatic prolapse with a short vagina after a previous hysterectomy.
